Starting Young
We read one page of the children's scriptures before bed every night with Caleb. Most of the time he sits real well and listens (unless he doesn't want to go to bed since he knows that's what will shortly follow). A real treat the past couple of weeks is Caleb wanting to 'read' by himself. If we're in his room playing and he sees the scriptures, he'll sit in the rocking chair all by himself and start flipping through the pages looking at the pictures. We finally caught it on camera. Here are some pictures to browse through. You'll notice in one picture he's pointing to a boat since that's something he recognizes! I hope this love of scripture reading will continue always as that's the best present he could ever give his mom on mother's day!

What cute pictures! I love those scripture stories! And we can totally relate to the boat thing. Every night we ask Drew which story he wants to read in the scriptures and he always says, "The one with the boat!" Thankfully there are several stories to choose from in the Book of Mormon that involve a boat. That's another reason I love those scripture stories so much--whenever we need to get Drew's attention back on the story, we just point out the pictures of boats and he's right back with us. Boys!
I love it! It reminds me of pictures of Jared sitting on the toilet reading the scriptures. And look, Jared still loves the scriptures. Great job teaching Caleb! You're a wonderful mom.
Yay so cute!
How cute! That's a really good idea to use the "scriptures" with pictures. We were reading the scriptures with Tyler every night, knowing he wouldn't understand anything but doing it just to bring the spirit into our home and get him in the habit young. But now that he's old enough to start picking up on certain stories, I think the ones you have would be so much more beneficial. Thanks for the idea!
Our kids love these illustrated Book of Mormon stories too. I've been meaning to order the Old and New Testament and Doctrine and Covenants as well. Elizabeth loves to get online and listen to them to from friend.lds.org. I guess Caleb is still a little young for that. =)Isn't he going to be 2 soon? Crazy!
