What's in a Name?

Unlike my husband who doesn't worry about these things, I have been so stressed about picking a name for our baby this whole pregnancy! I went through a book of 25,000 boy names and wrote down about 20 names that I liked or would consider as potential options. Some of the favorites on the list included Bryce, Brogan, Jacob, Logan, Peyton, Tyler, and Tyson. However, nothing seemed to feel right or else the names I really liked, Matt didn't like. I have agonized over the name thing especially as time is drawing nearer. When I went through the list of names in the book, I did not look at the 'C' section, however. I wanted to avoid a 'C' name this time because I didn't want to start a trend with first name and last name starting with a 'C' (or with a 'k' sound). I finally decided that nothing felt right about the names because we hadn't found the right one yet. So I went through the book again, and finally found some names that I loved and that Matt and I agreed on. We're down to two names now. Feel free to vote in the poll to express which name you like better. We'll see if it influences our final decision or not. :o)

Because the name Caleb came so easy and this one was more difficult, it makes me curious how parents pick their children's names. What's the story behind your children's names, or how do you plan on picking future names?

HI Haley! I'm going to vote for Kolby because I like the K. =) You know how we picked our names... Morgan didn't like any of the ones I was suggesting, and one time he suggested Elizabeth and I liked it too, so we used it. And I had Jordan picked out ever since I first met someone with that name because I thought it sounded so cool. Luckily Morgan likes it so we are using it for our boy coming in June. You know I have a friend who is Tongan and in her family they let the brother-in-law and sister-in-law pick the names of their first babies. Holy cow I'm glad that's not one of our traditions. =P

I love Carter..its super cute!

SO far with one little boy...we named him after his Grandfathers, Kenny was named after his Grandfathers, and his dad was named after his Grandfathers...so I wanted to keep the tradition going...on my side Will is the 5th generation 'William'...it was really fairly simple since we both liked family names and have similar tastes.

Good Luck!

Wow. You are having your baby a lot sooner than I realized. Well I voted for Kolby even though Carter is winning. I like both names I just think that Carter and Caleb are too similar. I also like the K in Kolby. Since my family is Mexican picking names is a lot harder for us. We have to make sure that the name is spelled the same way in Spanish. That is why we picked Samuel. Also it is a strong name. There is a Samuel in the Bible, Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Convenants. We figured it would strengthened our boy to know that he was named after righteous men. I liked that about my name. So I like the idea of naming our children after righteous people. That is how my parents chose our names. Good Luck with everything!

I voted for Kolby...I REALLY like it!

We also have tried to choose names of people that our children can look up to as righteous examples. Elizabeth just kind of came to us and seemed right from the very second we thought of it. (Thats after my sister). Dallin I really struggled with, but Craig loved the name and I didn't have a better alternative so he became Dallin. It has definitely felt right though and it totally fits it. Of course that comes from Dallin H. Oaks. William was an interesting story. Months before we were even thinking about getting pregnant we watched the movie "Amazing Grace." I was so inspired by the main character (its a true story) that immediately after the movie I turned to Craig and said, "I think we should name our next son William." We both instantly felt it was right, and we knew that William would be joining our family. The man he's named after is William Wilberforce, and after watching that movie I tried to learn more about him before naming my son after him. He is really an inspiring and amazing person! Anyway...I also think that choosing names is an intersting process. I'm excited to hear what you guys decide. I think either one is great--especially because it sounds so cute together with Caleb's name!

Our kids got Biblical names. It kind of started on accident, when we named Caleb. But I loved giving him a namesake, like Helaman did. Bethany is actually a city, but it's where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Seth - well, we learn from Joseph Smith that he was a "perfect man". Eve? In the D & C she's called, "Our glorious mother Eve." I love that. My kids are all so proud to have Biblical names. I'd love to go B of M... Good luck with your name! BTW, I forgot to say - you look great!
