I turned 30 years old on March 30th. Matt and I spent both Friday and Saturday painting as we are in the process of getting our house ready to put on the market. So Saturday was just another day. Matt's birthday is today, April 2nd, and this year we discussed that we wouldn't give each other presents as we're about to make big purchases associated with our move. So for my birthday, he gave me two hours to myself during the day without any distractions. I made Carter's birthday cake, talked to my good friend, Kim, then I took some time to read. It was wonderful!
For Matt's 30th last year, I threw him a party, but I didn't even try to make it a surprise. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep it a secret and would accidentally say something to clue him in. So he was involved in the planning process of who to invite, what to eat, etc. After his party, I told him not to throw a party for my 30th because I don't like to be the center of attention!
So the plan on Saturday after painting and working all day was to go fishing as a family (not my favorite activity, but it was Carter's birthday too). Then we were going to indulge in getting a nicer pizza than Little Caesars.
If I would have been looking for clues, I would have seen them throughout the day. Matt on the phone constantly, frequent text messages, and other little hints. But, I was clueless. So when we arrived at the designated location to meet Matt's family for fishing, I told Matt to take the boys down and start without me so that I could nurse the baby. Then I started to recognize a few cars and finally began to clue in.
It was a great party with yummy food, and Matt really worked hard to organize it. Since Carter and I share a birthday, he wanted to do something that would make it special for me. It was really thoughtful and sweet of him. I definitely felt loved from all my family and friends. The only oversight was Matt didn't think to invite a few friends that I would have liked there. Everyone asked me if I was truly surprised. Definitely. I would have taken the time to do my hair and make-up had I had any inkling!
Carter and I blowing out the candles (and my bald baby who is not growing any hair!).

Happy Birthday Haley! I had forgotten that you and Matt were so close in age....I bet he likes to remind you that you are older. :-) Looks like a fun celebration.
Your party was so fun!! Glad we could help surprise you!
Happy Birthday!! So fun that he planned a surprise! How nice to get the couple hours to yourself, too.
