Garden

Matt is the gardner in our family; I love reaping the benefits. Last year, we weren't able to do much of a garden because we were moving. We planted some tomatoes, and as we feared, didn't get to eat any of them as they were ready to pick a few weeks after we moved. Matt's been working hard this year, experimenting with different variables to see what yields the best results. We have room for a bigger garden now. Yay!

spinach, onions, carrots

We have some strawberry plants growing well so far too that you can't see well in any of the pictures. Just as in the past, Caleb loves going out to check the progress of the garden each day. He gives us a count daily of what's growing...so far 8 tomatoes and 2 strawberries.

Gardening

When we were buying seeds in February to plant in our garden, we gave Caleb the option of picking any seeds he wanted to plant.  He picked carrots.  Neither Matt or I have ever grown carrots and weren't sure how they would do in our tough growing climate, but we read the directions and gave it a shot.  We picked these carrots a few days ago.  Maybe if we would have left them in longer, they would have continued to get bigger?  We don't know what we're doing.  But Caleb was so proud of his baby carrots!  They tasted great too!

It's Coming Along

Our garden wasn't so successful last fall with broccoli and cauliflower. Here is attempt #2 with tomatoes, green pepper, and one strawberry plant just to see how it would do.

The first tomato
Green pepper getting pretty big
This is the same first tomato. It is now turning yellowish and working it's way to red. Yum! Can't wait for those BLTs.

It's fun to have a garden, although I can take very little credit. Matt does most all of the work from planting to treating/looking for bugs, etc. I cover the watering when I water the rest of the lawn.

Green Thumb

Matt's trying his hand at gardening while I applaud from the sidelines. We decided to start small and have only started with cauliflower and broccoli.
